Back on line, and new Spanish numbers, and in 1 apartment, y aprendiendo.

It has been a week....

We moved into the new place a little over a week ago..except we didn't. After moving all of our things to from the vacation rental to the new "piso" flat, we discovered that the toilets flushed but did not refill and there was almost no water pressure, The new flat had been vacant for a while. We discovered this around midnight, but hey we still had the vacation rental to go back to so we packed up backpacks and started hoofing across town to the old place. We even lucked out and were able to snag a taxi before making it half way. It was almost 1 by the time we tried to open the door to the vacation rental and discovered that the hostess  (landlady) had left her keys in the lock on the inside of the door when she came by to clean earlier in the day. To her credit she had texted me that she thought the keys were in the apartment. She did not mention that she thought they were in the door...meaning that we could not unlock the door. We learned a new word at 1 AM "cerrajero" locksmith. Our hostess called the cerrajero for us and we finally got in around 2AM.

Carlos called our dueno (landlord) for the new flat the next morning and we learned some fun new word there too. "Fontanero" plumber and "las tuberias" the pipes. Since it was Friday the fontanero would check everything out on Monday maybe Tuesday. So we spent the weekend at the vacation rental. Can't complain the weather was nice and it is certainly convenient to our Spanish language school and the hip tourist area downtown. Tuesday was gorgeous and cool. Carlos went to meet the fontanero while I walked with our third family member to their Spanish lesson. Since the weather was soooo cool I decided to pass the time at a café situated in the shaded median of a boulevard near the school. Café con leche and a croissant to get me through my homework and vocab list. It was a quintessential European way to pass the time. It was almost perfect....the croissant was a bit burned on the ends an doughy in the middle definitely under done.

The fontanero was great. The main water in the basement of the building had not been turned on all the way. He took the time to inspect everything and was an all around great guy. With plans of moving back to the new flat the next morning we grabbed some quick meals from the grocery store and called it a night. Remember that croissant...or should I say most evil of all baked goods? it was not just underdone it was BAD and under done. Tuesday night was not good for me. I resembled something from the Exorcist. Seriously it was the worst gastro intestinal illness that I have had since living in Guatemala. I spent Wednesday struggling to rehydrate and am not sure I was awake more that 1-1/2 hours at a stretch. Thursday was better for sure and I succeeded in eating solid food and taking a walk. I may have had the best spring roll of my life.

Friday we got Spanish phone numbers. We are reachable by WhatsApp for our friends in the US. If you want the new numbers email, dm, or whatever method us if you don't already have them. We also signed up for internet for the house at the same time. Saturday we moved back into the new flat and spent most of the weekend cleaning, organizing, unpacking, and buying the essentials... like a plant so I call it a home. The internet is on so we are back to the blog.
