Steps, Steps and More Steps!
We are spending a lot of our time exploring the city. This has mostly been done by foot but we have taken a local bus, and rode the tram to the end of the line yesterday then walked back to the center of town just to see more of the city ( See map above, It was a 4K walk). Last Sunday we bought tickets for the tourist hop on and hop off bus to see a large part of the city. And lets be honest our feet were still recuperating from the blisters we got from Friday's massive 27,000+ steps day.
The first few days were focused on getting to know the neighborhood of the hotel and finding some necessities...like the best haircuts ever. (Sidenote here: Carlos was too nice to mention how the barber mocked us for how uneven the youngest family member's hair was cut. Yep that last home haircut by me was not great 😂) Now we mostly walk to tourist sites, markets, restaurants and for pure exploration while trying to pick a neighborhood to call our home. Once we have walked all these steps we celebrate by walking up the four flights of stairs to our current domicile. YAY! more steps.
This is a town made for walking. It has wide sidewalks that are usually buffered from the rode by a bicycle & scooter lane that is as wide a traditional American sidewalk.
Many neighborhoods streets are 1 lane for cars flanked by walking areas of equal size for pedestrians.
Even major roads and bridges are designed for walkers. One of the major river bridges has a huge pedestrian side walk, next to the bike & scooter lane, 3 lanes for cars, 2 tram tracks (one each direction) followed by another huge pedestrian walk way. All the bridges have spectacular vistas.
On that note, we head out for the day the find new adventures!

Sounds like lots of exercise! What were you all doing on that 27K steps day? I don't think anyone has actually said - or maybe you just want to erase it from your memory. :)
ReplyDeleteWe were wandering around exploring in the morning then in the evening headed back up the hill into the neighborhood for dinner. That was the night we found the barber shop.
DeleteOh, nice! I bet you covered a lot of turf!
